Plot[]

Sometimes work can be even more soul-destroying than unemployment. Alienation on the Tyneside shipyards.

I was working on Tyneside in a steel mill - the one at Jarrow the famous march was all about - and one evening a friend and I went out for a drink and then home for a few more and his dad came in - also a few drinks to the better - and came out with this monologue.

Being a writer I hurried back to my room and wrote it down from memory. He gave it totally unprompted as a performance.
