The Eulogy of Harry Brogan written by Alan Archbold, P.J. O’Connor award winner 2010.

Broadcast on RTE on 2010

With Mark Lambert as the father figure.

Plot[]

Between ‘elegy’ and ‘eulogy’ one finds ‘epiphany’ in the posher dictionaries; and that’s as true of a father’s death as it is of the fifth letter in the alphabet.

Harry Brogan’s dead and gone, and the son who survives him (in that extraordinary phrase we use so casually) is preparing a lament from the lectern at the requiem Mass; but the very different, double life that the dad’s discovered memorabilia embody destabilize the child who’s grieving for a paterfamilias who’s isn’t paternal or familiar all of a sudden.
